Servers with a complex economy usually have a deeper-than-basic money system: player-run shops/markets, multiple currencies or item-based trading, fluctuating prices, taxes/fees, jobs or production chains, and plugins that make supply/demand and trading strategy matter beyond just selling to an admin shop.
