Progression servers gate content behind milestones so you unlock features over time, like higher-tier gear, new worlds/dimensions, commands, kits, jobs, or modpack stages. They usually use quests, ranks, tech trees, or timed/seasonal unlocks to keep players moving from early game to endgame instead of having everything available from the start.
