Action RPG servers add RPG-style progression on top of Minecraft: levels/skills, custom mobs and bosses, quests, loot with stats, and usually a focus on combat and dungeon-style content. They often use plugins or modpacks to make fighting more active and to gate areas/gear behind progression.
