Servers with inventory retention keep your inventory (and often your XP) when you die, usually like the keepInventory gamerule or a plugin. It’s common on casual survival, PvE, and some modded servers to reduce death penalties, sometimes with exceptions like dropping items in certain worlds or during PvP.
