A 16+ server is an age-gated multiplayer server aimed at older teens and up. They usually allow more mature chat and humor than all-ages servers, with less strict language rules, while still enforcing basic anti-harassment and anti-grief rules. The gameplay can be anything (SMP, factions, modded), but the main point is the community and moderation style being geared toward an older crowd.
